The Ins And Outs Of Door Knobs

What would we do without door knobs? We have a variety of stylish and useful door knobs for all your needs here at Handles 4 Doors. There’s more to them than you might think! So here’s some tips and guidance on choosing the right one.

Door knobs come in a variety of styles and materials. We have modern and antique door knobs depending on your taste! You can purchase brass, chrome, satin nickel, black, ceramic and porcelain knobs, or, for a more unique appearance, glass and crystal ones! Believe it or not, door knobs also come in different types.

What Type Of Door Knobs Would Suit Your Style?

At Handles4Doors, we stock an absolutely comprehensive collection of door knobs. As such, we can offer you a wide variety of styles to match any interior design choices. There are two really popular knobs that are ideal for domestic use: door knobs on a round rose and knobs on backplate.

Our collection of door knobs on a round rose incorporates a veritable cavalcade of different styles and finishes. Depending on your home’s interiors, you will certainly find the right knobs to suit you!

Amongst the most popular door knobs we sell include mushroom, oval and ball in shapes. Naturally, you’ll find a variety of finishes including nickel and stainless steel. These are fantastic for giving a contemporary feel to a modern apartment.

If you live in a period property, perhaps a regency townhouse or a quaint Victorian cottage, you can find more traditional styles and finishes. Why not try some Georgian knobs in antique or polished brass? If you have a more rustic aesthetic, consider black antique or natural wood knobs.

Door knobs on backplate are becoming more and more popular. The same variety in fit and finish is also available for this particular variety of door hardware. For contemporary apartments and homes, these are ideal. Clean, modern shapes are available, plus art deco and more traditional styles such as beaded or sausage and pea.

For even more variety why not consider rim knobs? These are ideal if you’re trying to achieve a more €œolde world€ look for your home. Simply couple the knob with a rim lock in a more homely, traditional finish €“ antique brass for example.

A Couple Of Tips For Door Knobs

The following may sound obvious, but it’s worth considering these things before you purchase your door knobs! Before you buy, measure the hole in your door and the diameter of your door knob, so your door knob will fit perfectly! Test the knob before you buy if possible €“ is it as you thought? Make sure your door knob isn’t damaged, is smooth, and make sure it feels comfortable and easy to grip!

Some door knobs on rose require a lightly sprung mortice latch, such as our Carlisle Brass Delamain Tubular Mortice Latch. Set the centre of the knob far enough away from the edge of the door to avoid €œknuckle graze€ on the door frame.  We advise minimum 100mm latch case size which puts the middle of the knob 82mm from the edge of the door.  In some cases a 76mm case size would be better.
