Getting To Know Your Kitchen Cupboard Door Handles

Kitchen cupboard door handles need to be functional, so that you can easily access your cupboards, but they also need to suit your kitchen decor. Here’s a handy guide from Handles4Doors to help you get to know your cupboard handles.

Types of Kitchen Cupboard Door Handles

There are three types of kitchen cupboard door handles that are commonly available: cabinet knobs, long cabinet handles and extra long cabinet handles.

Cabinet knobs are relatively easy to install yourself as they only require one hole to be fixed to a cabinet or cupboard. If you’re replacing kitchen cupboard door handles with knobs it is a little harder to install cabinet knobs as door handles tend to require two holes; this means that if you then install a cabinet knob it may not cover the two holes that were made when the door handles were first installed.

You can also install long cabinet handles. These come in a fewer choice of materials compared to cabinet knobs, but they do come in a range of different styles to fit with your kitchen decor. Long kitchen cupboard door handles are installed with two screws. This makes them a little harder to install than cabinet knobs but it is still possible to install this type of kitchen cupboard door handles yourself.

How to install kitchen cupboard door handles

The first thing you’ll need is the right tools:

  • A screwdriver
  • A drill
  • Masking tape
  • A ruler and a pencil.

Once you have the right tools you need to decide where you want your kitchen cupboard door handles to go. For example, do you want the handles to go along the bottom or top of doors or would you like your handles to go on the side of the cupboard door?

Once you have decided on this, mark where you will be drilling any holes so that you drill in the right spot. Measure thoroughly, as you don’t want some of the kitchen cupboard door handles to be higher or lower than the others! Mark the holes by putting a bit of masking tape on the cupboard and mark on here with a pencil where the holes are going to go. Now you know where you’re drilling, you can go ahead and drill the necessary holes.

After you have drilled the holes, you can remove the masking tape and place it on the next door. Only use the masking tape on doors that will open in the same direction as the one you just drilled. You can then happily screw in your cupboard handles!

Once you have done this, repeat the steps until all the cupboards in your kitchen are equipped with your stylish new door handles.
