The latchbolt and deadbolt are made from solid brass. ' So these locks are ideal replacements for old broken locks The followers are aligned horizontally, rather than vertically, as seen on most modern locks. They were often fitted in the Georgian and Victorian times, typically in grand or more expensive homes, where a traditional rim lock was viewed as too 'rustic. This imparts a much more spacious aesthetic and these Horizontal Locks are used to great effect on the Midrail of panelled doors. They also allow the key and lever handle or knob to be at the same height, which reduces the risk of catching a finger in the door. This Zoo bathroom lock, is operable by a turn & release with a standard 5mm Spindle. Horizontal mortice locks were more common before the introduction of lever handles. Supplied in SINGLES. This zoo bathroom lock provides a deeper fixing for the handle into the door than standard dead locks or sashlocks. These bathroom locks are Horizontal - This means that the Spindle Followers are on a horizontal plane, rather than a vertical plane, like most standard locks. Please use a heavier sprung lock such as the imperial door lock version (G3011) This range is built from 3 lever designs and as such are ideal for internal doors. Originally, this type of horizontal mortice lock would have been key operated, however this modern variation on an old design allows for the use of a turn & release, whilst still maintaining the period feel and dimensions of an original lock. These locks are usually used in conjunction with Door Knobs. NOTE: NOT suitable for fitting with a heavy un-sprung door knob.
