The plain Victorian window stay, sometimes referred to as the ‘Spoon’ end stay by virtue of its shape, is available in 3 lengths. The shortest 203mm, is usually employed on fanlights, and the longer 254mm and 305mm are normally used on the main window sashes.
The general rule of thumb for selecting the appropriate length of window stay is that the stay length should be about 50% to 60% of the casement width. The length of the stay will determine to some extent the degree of opening; however the actual selection of the length is also a matter of personal preference.
For some fanlights and some casement designs it is not possible to use the standard stay pin; hence cranked pins are available as an optional item. EJMA or angled pins may be required if the profile of the window frame is not square.
