The Ludlow Foundries LF5545 bulb end casement fastener is a classic design which can be used as either a mortice plate or a hook plate fastener.  Each one comes complete with both a hook plate and a mortice plate.   Finished in Ludlow black antique the fastener is traditional in every way, a matching bulb end stay completes the look.

Hook Plate Fasteners

Hook plate fasteners are needed when the windows have no central mullion, i.e. they are cottage style pairs of windows.  The windows close in a similar way to a pair of doors, one needs to be secured with bolts and the other closes onto the fixed one.  these types of window are usually quite rare and the majority of windows, which close into a standard frame, require the mortice plate fastener.

Malleable wrought iron is by its very nature susceptible to rusting and should be cared for accordingly, it will require a regular maintenance routine which should include a light application of oil and an occasional application of clear wax.  For these vary reasons, black antique furniture is not recommended for coastal areas, although it is often used on coastal properties.
