Window Furniture and Security Locks

Traditional English window furniture is specifically made to suit outward opening casement windows which are hung on hinges at either the side or top of the opening sash or for vertical sliding sash windows.

Modern & Standard Fasteners

A standard hinged casement window requires a fastener on the opposite side to the hinges to keep the window closed and a stay to hold it in the open position. Fanlights usually only require a stay, which holds the window open and secures it shut.

Modern windows can now incorporate multi point locks and here only an espagnolette fastener is required, if the window is hung on friction hinges.

Sliding sash windows generally require a sash fastener placed across the joint of the two sashes, sash lifts to assist with the opening and sash stops to restrict the opening.

Locking Functions

Many fasteners and stays are available in a locking version and additional window locks are also available. We would recommend that for convenience the fastener is locking and the stay is non-locking. Additional locks can be fitted when either the fastener or stay is not available in a locking version or for additional peace of mind.

It is generally an insurance company requirement that windows have a security locking function. If you would like further advice on which items would best suit your requirements, please call our customer services.
