The Ludlow Foundries LF5550 octagonal centre door knob is 64mm in diameter and sits on a 63mm diameter base rose.  Attached by one single bolt through the door it is intended to be both decorative and functional.  In general a centre door knob will, as the name suggests, be placed in the centre of the door to aid closing, however they are often seen closer to the edge of the door.

Front Door Furniture

As well as the centre door knob, other items of front door furniture include; a knocker, a letter plate, a letter plate tidy, a cylinder pull, a number or numbers, door chain, a bell push and escutcheons.  We would always recommend that items from the same manufacturers range are fitted to any one door, since finishes can vary between manufactures.

Ludlow Black Antique Finish

Malleable wrought iron is by its very nature susceptible to rusting and should be cared for accordingly, it will require a regular maintenance routine which should include a light application of oil and an occasional application of clear wax.  For these vary reasons, black antique furniture is not recommended for coastal areas, although it is often seen on coastal properties.
