Our budget mortice door bolt is a cost effective alternative to the branded door bolt. The bolt is locked and unlocked by the turn of the star key, which should be purchased separately.

Multiple Operation Turns

Generally, the bolt is locked and unlocked by a turn of the star key.   However, the bolt can be operated by a fixed oval turn, when security is not the main purpose of the bolt.  The convenience of being able to throw the bolt without a key is extremely useful for say interior pairs of doors when the mortice bolts are used to retain the slave door.

Insurance Company Approval

The mortice door bolt is commonly used to add extra security to pairs of double external doors, by either the use of a pair of bolts on the slave door or by a pair of bolts on both doors. The use of fixed turns on double external doors is not recommended, since releasing the bolts renders the lock inoperative. To satisfy insurance company requirements, the slave door of any pair of external doors should require a key to release any exposed bolts.
