Kick plates are generally used in commercial buildings to protect the lowest part of the door from scuff marks.  In hospitals and warehouses they can also be used to protect the mid rail area of the door.  In some areas it may be necessary to protect the door up to 1000mm from the floor, in which case the plate is often referred to as a crash plate.  

Typically 150mm High

In most case a 150mm high plate is sufficient to protect the door, however, it is not un-common to see 200mm or 300mm high plates.  Usually, they will be 5 to 10mm narrower than the width of the door.
