Intumescent hinge liner pads should be used on all 30 minute or 60 minute fire doors to maintain the integrity of the doors fire rating. 2 pads are required on 30 minute doors (one behind each leaf) and 4 pads are required on 60 minute fire doors (two pads behind each leaf).

Fire Test Certification

Intumescent material is almost always a prerequisite of ironmongery to comply with fire test certification i.e. when any item was tested it had intumescent material around it and when fitted on site it should be the same. Frequently, either no intumescent is fitted or another type is installed other than that used in the original test. This practice can invalidate the test for the item involved and to comply with the regulations and meet the necessary fire rating always fit intumescent material supplied by the manufacturer or approved by them.
