Frelan Hardware Single Action Spring Hinges

Single action spring hinges are typically used in commercial buildings, such as restaurants, pubs, clubs and offices, were it is required that the door is generally kept shut, for convenience.  Double Action hinges are by far more popular than this single action and these hinges are not suitable for fire doors.  These hinges are packaged without screws, hence please order screws separately.

Single or Double Action

As the names suggest the single action hinge will open only one way and the tensioning of the spring mechanism will close the door. Double action spring hinges allow the door to open in either direction and will return the door to the closed position. Each pair of hinges comes with tensioning pins, which are inserted into the knuckle of the hinge, once fitted, to tension the internal spring mechanism. The spring tension and closing force is controlled by the location of the pin into pre-determined holes around the hinge knuckle.

Hinge Size & Door Weight

Due to the nature of the design of the spring action hinge, door thickness and door weights are critical in selecting which hinge to use. The maximum door weights, widths and thicknesses for each size should not be exceeded.  Please refer to the attached specification for the individual hinge capacities.

Fire Door Approval

These single action spring hinges are not approved for use on fire doors.  There are versions available and should you have a requirement, please call customer services for advice.
