The parliament hinge is traditionally used to allow a door to fully open 180 degrees, back onto a wall. A typical example of this would be a pair of French doors or a pair of doors between to rooms, like a dining room and lounge.
Three sizes of parliament hinge are available to give varying projections. The standard 102mm x 102mm hinge will clear a projection up to 52mm, which is usually adequate for most situations. 102mm x 125mm hinges will clear 76mm and 152mm hinges will clear 102mm.
By their very nature parliament hinges will not carry a heavy loading, we would recommend no more than 20 – 25Kg on any three hinges and again this is dependent upon the width of the door. For doors over 750mm in width we would suggest that full projection hinges are used as these are able to carry significantly more weight, up to 80Kg in certain situations.
