The 1840 type steel loose pin butt hinge is a light pattern domestic hinge, suitable for 35mm thick doors up to about 10 - 12 Kg in weight.  As the name suggests the pivot pin is removable, allowing for easy removal of the door during decoration.  Hence it has been and is a favourite with many house developers and builders.

Plated Finishes

The 75mm loose pin hinge is available in electro brass or a bright zinc plated finish to suit the door furniture chosen.  Loose pin hinges should be oiled, annually, to improve their life span and the pins will need to be periodically tapped home, as over time, the motion of the door tends to make the pin rise.

The 1840 hinges we supply come boxed in 10’s and are not supplied with screws; hence please order screws separately. The size required is a No 7, probably 1" or 1¼” depending on your preference. Please see related items for screws.
