Door Hinges
Door hinges come in many guises, however still by far the most common are butt hinges and tee hinges. Butt hinges fit between the door and the frame and the knuckle or pivot point of the hinge is visible on the outside of the door. Tee hinges are entirely on the surface of the door and frame and exposed to view.
Butt Hinges & Tee Hinges
In the majority of cases we sell door hinges in pairs and butt hinges are available in a variety of finishes to match the door handles. These finishes include brass, chrome (satin & polished), stainless steel (satin & polished), plated nickel (satin & polished) antique brass, imitation bronze, unfinished steel, bright zinc plated steel, sheradized steel, electro brass plated steel, powder coated steel in a variety of colours and cast iron, to name a few.
Tee hinges generally come in black, zinc plated, raw steel, rustic waxed finish or pewter. They are also available in brass, but they are not very common.
Fire Door Hinges Grading
Hinges can be tested to a European Standard (EN) equivalent to our old British Standard. If tested they will be stamped accordingly with their grading if they have also been tested for use on Fire Doors. Typically a fire door rated hinge for a 60 minute fire door will be stamped with the European ‘CE’ mark and show that it is a Grade 13 hinge. This means it will be suitable for use on a door weighing up to 80 kilograms. All fire doors, including domestic doors must be fitted with a minimum of three ‘CE’ marked and approved hinges, in order to meet the current Building Control Regulations.
