Durable beeswax finish
The Suffolk Thumb Latch from Isis Ironmongery is a beautifully crafted piece of door ware that is based on traditional designs from the 17th and 18th century. It is perfect for traditional properties such as cottages, manor houses and listed buildings. It can also be used to add a charming feature to commercial properties such as old pubs, B & Bs and hotels.
The thumb piece of the latch measures 110mm and the latch bar measures 160mm. The latch also includes a privacy pin for a locking option. Because these rustic latches are hand-forged and have been given hammer marks at the edges, no two pieces are alike. Each one has its own charming, individual character.
The final production process for this traditional thumb latch is to dip it in beeswax. This imparts a highly protective coating to the latch, meaning it will last well even in the most exposed of locations. We recommend a firm buffing with a smooth cloth to develop a lovely sheen on the latch and a yearly application of beeswax will maintain the original look.
