Family Business
The company is run by husband and wife team, Graham and Suzanne Faulkner, who after 30 years in the workforce decided it was now or never if they wanted to fulfil their dreaming of running their own business and being their own boss. With Graham’s background in engineering and sales and Suzanne’s experience of finance and admin, they went ahead and formed Acorn Ironmongery Ltd in March 2002, to sell door handles, door locks, door knobs and other architectural ironmongery to the trade and retail market.

Success was swift – the Company’s turnover quadrupled in 4 years of trading and within 12 months two former colleagues had joined the team and together they quadrupled turnover in 4 ½ years of trading. It soon became apparent to Graham and Suzanne that there was a growing need for a good online retail service as many customers found that the choice of window and door furniture in the big DIY sheds was limited and, quite frankly, pretty awful. The range of door handles, window furniture, cabinet handles, kitchen fittings and other ironmongery is so vast and ever changing that Graham and Suzanne felt the only way to present the choices available was via an ordered, practical and accessible ecommerce website. www.handles4doors.co.uk was born.
Handles4Doors is a family-run business that sells ironmongery, kitchen fittings and bathroom accessories to the general public and trade. We started off life in a small, rustic warehouse in the Farnham countryside with spiders and the cold for company but our success in recent years has taken us to a large, professional warehouse in Fleet, from where we can manage our growing stock levels and endlessly operating packing line more efficiently.
Now run by Suzanne, with son Ben as Sales Director, along with our friendly, helpful customer services team. Daughter Sophy is Despatch and Administration Manager. Graham has remained in Farnham to head up the parent company, Acorn Ironmongery Ltd, now in its 10th year.
With the current trend for ‘improve don’t move’ – influenced by the state of the economy and the wide choice of home design and improvement shows on TV - we recognise that there are many interior designers, kitchen fitters, cabinet makers, home owners and project managers looking for stunning door handles, kitchen handles, door knobs and more to add a quality finishing touch to a renovation or restoration project. With over 50 years industry experience between them, our sales and technical team can give reliable, up-to-date advice and recommendations, as well guidance on the right applications that adhere to current building regulations. We can cater for both small home improvement projects and commercial projects on a huge scale and, through our huge network of suppliers and contacts, we are able to source specific products and information that might not be available on the site.
Success at Handles4Doors
The company has gone from strength to strength since its launch in July 2007 and we have recently transferred the site to new developers, who have streamlined its navigation and filtering, updated and added to its features and incorporated super-fast checkout functionality, to make Handles4Doors arguably the most attractive, user-friendly and dynamic ironmongery website out there. Google likes us too – we are always at or very near to the top of the listings for our keyword searches and we are targeting that number 1 spot for all our top selling product categories!
We are also proving a hit on reviews website, Trustpilot, where our customers and clients are able to write reviews about the service we provide good or bad. This is not something that every ecommerce website does for fear of a bad rating but we are so confident in the quality of product we offer and the amazing level of service given by our customer support team that we are happy to let our customers write about us for all the world to see. And we are thrilled that almost all of the reviews are hugely positive and we have a 9.5/10 rating on the Trustpilot site!

We are very excited about the future - we are racing towards 2012 as busy as ever, with huge expectations and expansions in all areas of the business planned. We are adding more and more products every month to each and every category on the site and suppliers across the UK, Europe and beyond are wanting to work and advertise with us. We have developed great relationships with the two German giants, Hafele and Hettich, and we are able to supply a huge number of their innovative, high quality products such as kitchen pull outs, larder units, kitchen storage, kitchen baskets, kitchen handles and a whole host of kitchen accessories.
