Blackened Beeswax Finish
ONLY 2 LEFT!
The Traditional Hand Forged Cupboard Latch has been drawn and hand forged in the traditional fashion and the designs are faithful reproductions of the best in English blacksmithing. The latch has great character and old world charm.
As the cupboard latch is traditionally used on pantry doors and the like matching thumb latches for the standard doors are also available. The two classic designs which are regularly used are the 'Gothic' or the 'Bean' latch.
Each latch is given a beeswax finish to ensure a long lasting authentic appearance. However, if used externally a regular application of clear wax should be applied to maintain the finish. If left exposed to damp conditions and not maintained Blackened Beeswax Finished items will begin to exhibit rust patches, where moisture is able to penetrate the wax finish.
Please note that the Beeswax finish is not ideal for exterior use, but can be used if well cared for. 'It will rust if not cared for'. It can be used externally, but if not waxed or oiled on a regular basis, such as weekly or monthly, it will rust. In many instances, the rusty look is what is desired for that old traditional rustic effect. If so, reduce the duration between cleaning, oiling or waxing. Please also note that, in our experience, beeswax finish products used internally can be affected by very humid atmospheres, such as bathrooms and moisture from drying plaster on walls. Care should be taken to look after any products stored in damp conditions or used in these areas.
