Description
The Louis Fraser 501 casement fastener is based on the ever popular curly tail or rat tail fastener. Used widely in period and country properties this fastener design is everlasting, its been around for a few hundred years and I’m sure it will still be around in a couple of hundred years time. This version from Louis Fraser is not only made in malleable iron but is also made in solid cast bronze.
Note: All Louis Fraser products with an Antique Pewter finish are made to order, so delivery time is 4-6 weeks
Hook Plate or Mortice Plate
The 501 fastener is a reversible non-handed fastener and available with either a mortice plate or a hook plate. Most windows require the mortice plate, only pairs of cottage type windows with a flush meeting style, require a hook plate and these windows are not so nowadays.
Dull Black Finish
Cast from malleable iron, each fastener is given a protective phosphate undercoat treatment prior to the final coating of black paint. A traditional dip paint process is used after this to aid the dull black appearance. An occasional wiping with a lightly oiled cloth will help to retain the look of the product. The finish is suitable for both internal and external use.
Oil Rubbed Bronze Finish
Cast from solid bronze all items pass through a series of hand applied chemical processes to help achieve this natural patina with the finish completed with a thin coating of beeswax. in time and usage, the original colour of this product will slowly age, giving each piece its own natural uniqueness. Periodic wiping with a lightly oiled cloth or a fine paste beeswax will further help to preserve the look of the product. It is a finish suitable for internal and external use.
Antique Pewter Finish
Cast from malleable iron, these natural cast pieces are subjected to chemical treating and polishing. A coat of clear lacquer is then applied to enhance the final appearance. Periodic wiping with a lightly oiled cloth will further help to preserve the look of the product. This finish is suitable for internal use and external use in sheltered areas.
