Sash Window Furniture & Locks
Commonly sliding sash windows will have a sash fastener fitted in the middle of the window between the two sashes. Increasingly this fastener is available in a locking version. The three most common types of fastener are the fitch fastener, Brighton fastener and straight arm fastener.
Fitch Type Fasteners
By far the most commonly used fastener is the fitch type which comes in a variety of finishes, locking or non-locking.
In addition to a fastener it is usual practice to fit a pair of sash lifts to the bottom of the bottom sash to assist with the opening. As an alternative to sash lifts sash handles or sash rings can be used, however, sash handles and rings are more commonly fitted to the to top the top sash.
