When selecting ironmongery for use in public buildings it is important to consider the current regulatory requirements for architectural ironmongery acceptable for use in public buildings, as well as the recent DDA (Disabled Discrimination Act) requirements.
CE Marked Fittings
In particular, hinges should conform to British Standards as well as being CE marked if fitted to fire doors. Door closers should be CE approved/marked and meet the current requirements of the DDA, and any panic hardware should be CE marked.
Third Party Safety Testing
CE marked ironmongery products will have been third party tested to either British or European standards and have evidence of satisfactory performance in a relevant fire test. Products are manufactured within a factory that can demonstrate that it can maintain standards and produce items to agreed quality levels.
