Concealed Door Closers
Concealed door closers range from a simple spring chain closer, to a fully integrated closer concealed in the top of the door.
In most domestic dwellings you will find a single or double chain closer. These types of closer rely on the tension of a spring to return the door to a closed position. They are fairly crude in operation and tend to slam the door shut if released from fully open. The most well known, named chain closers are Percos or Percomatics by Samuel Heath.
Closing Speeds
To have any degree of control over the closing speed and latching of the door you need to use a fixed link closer, such as the Samuel Heath Powermatic. This is similar to the double chain Percomatic, but has two fixed swivelling arms which control through hydraulics, the speed at which the door closes.
Dorma and Geze make their ITS96 and boxer closers respectively. This type is recessed into the top of the door. They are completely concealed when the door is closed and the operating arm is only visible when the door is opened.
Today’s regulations preclude the fitting of anything other than a CE marked and approved door closer to a new domestic or commercial fire door. If you have any doubts as to which type of closer would best suit your purpose, please call our experienced customer services team for advice.
