Door Knockers
Door knockers were originally used to provide a signal that someone was requiring attention at the door. Today, with the extensive use of door bells, many door knockers are largely decorative. They are usually produced in a shaped heavy piece of metal called the hammer or knocker, which is hinged to a backplate and arranged to strike a drum or anvil. They can be produced in various finishes and attractive contemporary, traditional or period style patterns, often as a matching part of a suite of exterior door furniture.
Varying Style, Size & Shape
The urn shaped door knocker is very popular and often seen on doors of modern houses. The ring door knocker is a simple classic design and looks great on a contemporary or traditional front door. Period style door knockers include the doctor knocker, the lion knocker and the Regency and Georgian slim knocker. All of these designs are available in a variety of different finishes to create the right look to complement your entrance area perfectly.
